This 1972 MG Midget is a blue-over-black convertible that is said to have been refurbished during previous ownership, and it was acquired by the seller in June 2020. The car is powered by a 1.3-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes a black soft top and matching boot cover, chrome bumpers, 13″ wheels, a luggage rack, and an Alpine CD stereo. Maintenance during current ownership included removing and flushing the engine, servicing the transmission, and replacing the alternator and ignition components. This Midget is now offered at no reserve with service records, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The body was reportedly refinished in its current shade of blue during previous ownership, and was fitted with a replacement black soft top and matching boot cover. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and mirrors, leather hood straps, three windshield wipers, dual exhaust tips, and a luggage rack mounted on the rear decklid.
Silver 13″ Minilite-style wheels with MG-logo center caps and valve stem caps are mounted with 155/80 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP tires. A full-size spare is located in the trunk, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features seats trimmed in black leather and were reportedly fitted with replacement foam cushions. Equipment includes a heater, crank windows, MG Midget-branded rubber floor mats, an Alpine CD stereo, and a carpeted rear parcel shelf. According to the seller, a replacement dashboard was fitted during previous ownership, and some of the electrical connectors are detached.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 100-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, along with auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 4k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The 1.3-liter inline-four was rated at 54 horsepower and 67 lb-ft of torque when new. An engine-out service was performed during current ownership, which included removing the water pump, flushing the engine, and refurbishing the exhaust manifold. Fluid changes were performed at the same time, and the alternator, ignition coil, and spark plugs and wires were also replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that is said to have been recently serviced, and the seller describes first gear as noisy. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
Service records and receipts are included in the sale in addition to two transmissions and spare parts.
