Lot #2556

This 1963 MG Midget was purchased new in Huntsville, Alabama by the seller’s friend for his wife. The car was used by the original family for about two years, then parked in their garage until the seller restored it for them in the mid 1990s. The seller then acquired this 42k-mile example from the original owners about six years ago, and it has been driven very little since. The restoration looks to be have been thorough, and the original and original-type equipment appear to remain in nice condition. This MG is sold with transferable Alabama vintage plates and a bill of sale as Alabama does not title cars of this vintage.

MG-9-1

The seller stripped the car fully during its restoration, and notes that the car was completely straight apart from door-dings with no evidence of past rust, filler or accidents. The car had been garaged from new, aiding in its preservation. The paint is lacquer in the original color, Clipper Blue.

MG-7-1

The factory-type fully removable top is in good condition with a clear rear window, and both side curtains are included.  A full tonneau cover is included in matching blue. The wire wheels are painted silver rather than finished in chrome.

MG-6-1

The original owner had the car optioned with a rear seat cushion in order to justify using it as a “family car.” The whole interior was redone at the time of the restoration in blue leather with white piping, which appears nicely fitted with crisp edgework. The blue carpets are a similar age and show little wear. The steering wheel is aftermarket, but no other non-stock hardware is apparent. The speedometer works, but jumps around a little while driving.

MG-3

The engine is the original A-Series inline-four with dual SU carburetors. The under hood equipment appears correct, including the often lost heater ducting and fan shroud. The SU carbs have factory-type air cleaners. The seller has only driven the car about two hundred miles in his six years of ownership, and the original owners only drove the car a few times following the restoration before putting it back in the garage under a cover. The seller notes that the car needs shocks, as they were not replaced.

MG-5-1

The trunk is tidy and includes a matching spare wheel and tire.

Underside-F

The underside of the car is clean and straight, consistent with its limited lifetime useage and time in the South.

IMG_2067-2

This MG Midget looks well prepared, and is in a fairly original configuration. Its low mileage, long-term ownership, and overall solidity bode well for this diminutive sports car.
