#MCM – Musical Cure Monday – Avril Knows Best

Get ready to get angry 🙂 because I love this week’s artist as well as this song.

Although, it is hard to be angry on a beautiful day like today.

The_Best_Damn_ThingI’m throwing back this week’s Musical Cure Monday all the way back to 2007.

This song was on the album Best Damn Thing and if that is not a big enough hint this week’s song is:

I Can Do Better by Avril Lavigne

“I didn’t give a damn what you say to me
I don’t really care what you think of me
Cause either way you’re gonna think what you believe
There’s nothing you could say that would hurt me”

Avril-LavigneAvril Lavigne is such a powerhouse lady singer. I used to jam to her music all the time. “There’s nothing you could say that would hurt me.” Lavigne is past the stage where she hangs on every word of her ex. While these first lyrics could also be applied to bullying, it is clear through the rest of the lyrics that she is hurting after a break up and is trying to get over it.

“I’m better off without you anyway
I thought it would be hard but I’m OK
I don’t need you if you’re gonna be that way
Because with me, it’s all or nothing”

Many of the angry songs also cross the line into acceptance songs with some of their lyrics. This is exactly what happens with the stages as well, one blends into aavril yellsnother.”I’m better off without you anyway, I thought it would be hard but i’m OK.” These lyrics make me smile. Lavigne knows that she will be all right, and she is not afraid to come out and yell it at her ex.

I’m sick of this shit, don’t deny
You’re a waste of time
I’m sick of this shit, don’t ask why”

This section of the song is repeated and connects the verses to the chorus. “You’re a waste of time,” while it is harsh, this week wouldn’t be angry if the lyrics were nice.

“I hate you now
So go away from me
You’re gone, so long
I can do better, I can do better
Hey, hey you
I found myself again
That’s why you’re gone
I can do better, I can do better”

This section is the chorus. I love the lines “I hate you now, so go away from me.” It is what everyonI can do bettere wants to yell at their ex sometimes, okay most times. While you will get over the “I hate you” part of your break up, it is a real fun part. “I can do better, I can do better.” Lavigne again is crossing into the acceptance section with her anger.

“You’re so full of shit
I can’t stand the way you act
I just can’t comprehend
I don’t think that you can handle it
I’m way over, over it”

This song is quite explicit, not exactly rated G, however the version I added above does say “You’re so full of shhh,” which makes it a little better. It sounds like Lavigne dated a person who did not meet expectations. During the angry phase of a break up, all of the little things that you looked past dAvriluring a relationship come out, and the glass is shattered. You wonder why you ever submitted to their behavior in the past. At least Lavigne is “way over it.”

“I will drink as much lemoncello as I can
And I’ll do again and again
I don’t really care what you have to say
Cause you know, you know you’re nothing”

I promise this is the last clip of the lyrics that I will pull out, but I hope you now share my opinion that AVRIL IS THE BEST! “I don’t really care what you have to say, cause you know, you know you’re nothing.” How real did Lavigne just get. She is throwing this boy to the ground in her lyrics, which is great.

You all should know this week has just opened the door to Avril Lavigne music, and I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER!

The angry stage of the break up can be amusing, but please don’t let it consume you.
