We were in the year of 2008 when R.Oliveira a friend from a friend contacted me to ask if I could do a "patchwork" mixing all the recorded versions I could find from a specific old music piece, that is probably the most successfully international piece ever composed by a Portuguese in the XX century - "Coimbra" from Raúl Ferrão, composed in the late 1930's and beacame public only in1947 after its first recording. The Song changed the title and the lyrics to "April in portugal"/ "Avril au Portugal" to be exported and recorded all over the world. Our common friend knew that since the beginning of the 2000's I had a project spinning vinyls on a session that was a personal trip into the most exotic, kitch and also iconic vinyl tracks between 1940's until 1960's. The records session's opening was precisely the mix of 9 or 10 cover versions and the original of this music piece, only now I was asked to include all the cover versions that I could find. After some intensive research I found 43 versions although according to the information available on the internet there are around 200 recorded versions. The mix was then incorporated on an installation created by R. Oliveira at the Presidency Palace in Lisbon. Later while working with the Real Combo Lisbonense I continued to use it as the opening of my records session after the R.C.L. concerts. Here is the result of that mix.
