Cactus Ferocactus Pilosus

Because of the shape of its spikes, the four-centimeter flowers are not allowed to open fully.

Here’s Ferocactus Pilosus. It is best known as a lime barrel biznaga and comes from Mexico. Its Latin name has a rather curious translation because “ferus” is attributed to the wild and “cactus” refers to the spines of some species. It is generally described as a single, but pointed cactus, between fifty centimeters and one meter high and thirty to sixty centimeters as it grows.

The growth of the spines is also rather curious. From each point hole, four to nine can be clearly distinguished as four of these are arranged in the form of a cross, while the others are much shorter and are concentrated around the cross. The spines are usually red, yellow or both colors.

When the flowering ends, a small yellow fruit appears, and it is also edible. This isn’t a plant that likes to be in enclosed or underlit spaces, so it’s good to have them in the sun most of the day without forgetting that those who are small or young, I recommend that you put a little shadow in the warmest hours of the day, so we guarantee optimal development.

As it’s considerate a strong class, it tolerates temperatures of forty degrees of maximum, but does not like the cold at all, so it is better to expose them to temperatures below five degrees positive. Its maximum ideal temperature is between twenty-two and thirty-two degrees.

It doesn’t hold water excesses well, small ones if you water them once a month with rainwater without exceeding the test (meaning that water doesn’t touch the top of the cactus, only the soil must be wet) and those that are grown, survive with occasional rainwater.

A curious note, in this species, some cactus has been recorded at the age of eighty, making them long-lived.
