Common Name The Purple Bulbophyllum [refers to the leaves]

Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm] variable

A species of Thailand, Myanmar and the islands of Java, Borneo and Sumatra in lowland and lower montane forests on tree trunks and tree branches, often overhanging water, at elevations of 900 to 1700 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with .4" [1 cm] between each has 3 ridged, lenticular to ovate-prismatic, smooth and shiny in youth and angular with age, unifoliate pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, tough and leathery, elliptic, deciduous leaves that blooms in the spring, summer and fall on a slender, erect, bracteate, to 16 1/4" [to 18 cm] long, inflorescence which arises from an older pseudobulb carrying an umbel of 10 to 19, close set flowers at the apex and held well above the leaf.

This species grows well in pots with hot temperatures, deep shade and need ample moisture and fertilizer to bloom well.
