Master Bedroom Reveal 4: Fun & Fresh

by Samantha James

The master bedroom stylings are winding down, but I have a couple more up my sleeve for ya. Today's take: two looks on the lighter side that I interpret as "fun & fresh." They pay me the big bucks for my creative titling abilities, obv.

The bones of these are pretty similar. Of course, we're still sticking with the two red Hemnes dressers from Ikea, the inspiration behind these style shenanigans, and in both I've hung $20 table cloths from Marshall's as curtains, using drapery rings. (If you're using drapery rings, the easiest way to space them out is to lay out your curtain, position clips at either end and in the middle, and then eyeball clips in the middle of each section, until you're out of clips. No need for precision or a tape measure here). Both also sport white bedding as the base, and the Schnauzer Chocolate Bars print that belongs to our homeowners. And of course those teal poufs from Target, which have so far made it into nearly every styling.

After that, I just messed around with accessories, nearly all of which are familiar. Some new to the game:

1. The heart throw pillow in picture one is pretty cute. It's actually knitted, and the heart is big and orange. I borrowed it from Lou's room for this shot, but I got it at Goodwill for $6.

2. The print leaning against the wall on my headboard in the first picture is of Kansas City and belongs to our homeowners. We kept telling Lou it was Paris, but nope, close inspection reveals it's Kansas City.

3. The long teal body pillow is a body pillow wrapped in a blue ombre curtain panel from Target, via Goodwill, for $7. That same throw is tastefully draped on the bed in picture 2.

4. The blue lattice-patterned throw/bedspread in the first picture is a Target table cloth for $20.

Moving onto picture 2:

1. The framed map is actually a dry-erase self-adhesive thing that I framed. It's borrowed from Lou's room. I got it at Ross for $15.

2. The calendar leaning against the frame is from Target via Goodwill for $2.

3. The mirrored tray is Target, clearance, for about $3.50.

4. That tall white empty vase is also from Target, on clearance, for maybe $4. I collected all the other accessories from around the house.

I'm completely meh on both of these, though I prefer the first styling. When I bought them, I thought the curtains were so pretty, and that they would definitely stay for the actual eventual decorating of our room. I love that they are not a) chevron, b) quatrefoil, or c) ombre, all of which are cute but so trendy it's just not how I want to go. But then when they were up, I just wasn't blown away. And I prefer to be blown away. I did use them with more success in a later styling, so stay tuned for that.

I'm not sure exactly what's off. I like the individual pieces in both rooms, but I guess I did a bad job of putting them together, because I'm not sure the total equals the sum of the parts in either case.

Also, does the jewelry hanging in each photo drive you nuts? I'm sorry if it does. I just couldn't bring myself to deal with the potential tangle situation if I took them down for photos. So there they are. In one sense, it's good: If you haven't noticed, I do try to be honest in this here blog --- sure, I'll drape some jewelry out of an egg crate, and otherwise have fun "styling" things, but I try not to depict completely unrealistic scenes of how we live. The whole purpose of the blog is to share how we try to make the best out of our home -- so here it is. Our home. A friend/reader recently called it, ellipses and all....cozy.

So, we're now up to 5 Bedroom Stylings --

Who's sick of 'em? Who wants to keep 'em coming? I'm working really hard on Lou's room this week, so I'm hoping to have sharesies of our process on that. Maybe give the ole' master a break for a bit.

Thanks for stopping by!
